Q PowerPoint Presentation: Each student will create a PowerPoint presentation that will critically analyze and draw scholarly conclusions from the criminological theory and research as to the effectiveness, efficiency, appropriateness, and equity of the criminal law and its administration through the criminal justice system, i.e. police, courts, corrections.; and analyze how race, gender, sexual orientation, age, and class affect arrest, charging, and sentencing.   Make sure you consider all aspects of your assigned topic: General background, historical background, informative statistics (graphs and other visuals), case studies, theoretical perspectives, interesting policies and legal changes, and anything else you think would add to the discussion and learning process.   Some of the topics will include but aren’t limited to: Police misconduct, criminal courts, federal courts, probation, parole, officers on campus, stop and frisk, 3 strikes law, truth in sentencing laws, plea deals, juveniles tried as adults, etc.

General background of criminal law  Criminal law is such a kind of law that tries to prevent any person to do or abstaining to do any illegal act or crime, but if it is committed, then such person or group of persons are liable to get punishment under such law (Legal Information Institute., 2021). In the case of civil law, it is committed against an individual or group of people but crime is committed against the state. In the United State, every state has its criminal code or criminal laws, apart from this there is also a codified federal law, Title 18 of the U.S. Code, which was enacted by congress to provide certain punishment (Legal Information Institute., 2021). These criminal codes are substantive laws, which protect the right and obligations of individuals in the community, by finding that the defendant is liable for a commission or not, if yes reason behind the crime and rate of punishment. Criminal procedure is a procedural law, which deals with the process which is followed during the investigation to trial and post-trial period. The Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure is prepared by the federal government; it is a certain process that must be done during any criminal proceeding (Legal Information Institute., 2021).
